Asin Thottumkal is a Bollywood film actress born into a Catholic family in Kochi, Kerala. According to Asin, her name means without sin, the A in her name being the Sanskrit letter for without, and sin being the English word. She first started acting at the age of 15 with a supporting role in a Malayalam film. Her breakthrough success was achieved with "Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi" opposite Ravi Teja, portraying a Tamil girl in her first Telugu language film, which subsequently fetched her the Telugu Filmfare Award for Best Actress. Soon after her Telegu debuts, Asin moved to Bollywood for further exposure and access to more diverse roles. Her first Bollywood film, Ghajhini, was the highest grossing Indian film of all time unadjusted for inflation. She co-starred with Aamir Khan as a fashion model who falls in love with a rich businessman. The movie is the Indian remake of "Memento." Currently, Asin is working on a trilingual film titled "19th Step" in English, Japanese, and Tamil alongside Vikram (John Kennedy) and Tadanobu Asano.
